The CS coupe
The first coupe of the line CS is the 3200 in 1962 . It is drawn by Giugiaro which still worked at Bertone, this drawing is caracterised by the side without median foot between the fronts and back windows. It is sold between 1962 and 1965 to 603 specimens.
The coupe 2000 CS appears at the summer 1965 and is assembled at Karmann at Osnabruck. The design is caracterised by headlights called "attached eyes". It preserves the drawing of the side windows of the 3200 CS. It leaves into three version C (100 CH DIN), CA and CS (120 CH DIN). They are sold between 1965 and 1970 to 13 691 specimens including 9 999 of the version CS.
At the show of Frankfurt 1968, an extrapolation of 2000 CS is presented. This is the 2800 CS (E9 type). It is caracterised by a longer cap allowing itself to equip it with the six cylinders of new truck 2800, and specific fires and which will be taken again on many vehicles of range BMW. It is followed by coupe 3.0 CS in 19nn. It is followed in 1972 by the coupe 3.0 CSi. The result of this range will bring famous the 3.0 CSL, precursor of the future alternatives M of BMW Motorsport. The CS of this generation are sold with 30 546 specimens between 1968 and 1975.
The replacement is done at the show of Geneva 1976 , with first 6 series with coupe 630 CS and 633 CSi designed by French P. Bracq. They more comfortable but a little less sporting, and much are adapted to the fortunate customers concerned. Moreover their career shows an exceptional longevity. They are sold with 86 216 specimens between 1976 and 1989.
8 series replaces 6 series in 1990. They are very luxurious and much heavier on the balance. The 300 CH of V12 5 liters inherited the 750 it does not make it possible to give a sporting character to the extremely elegant coupe. Promising M8 equipped with V12 6 liters of 600 CH is unfortunately never marketed. Launchings of the 850 Csi in 1992, and 840 Ci in 1993, still do not make it possible to find a sporting coupe. To prove it, approximately 90 % of the coupe of 8 series ordered will be equipped with automatic gear box, and even in Western Europe however usually little attracted by this mode of transmission. 30 603 specimens are produced between 1990 and 1999.
The last generation on coupe CS is last 6 series , presented at the show of Frankfurt 2003 . The new designer, very discussed C Bangle, tried to influence a style entirely forgetting tradition BMW. before is rather fluid and the back much more tortured. Aerodynamic qualities were apparently privileged with one Cx of 0.29. Release initially in a version 645 Ci, the CSi version is not commecialisée yet. For the first time since a long time in this range, it is declined in version convertible in 2004.
